São Miguel

Located at 37o 48´N and 25o 12´W, São Miguel Island lies 54 mi north of Santa Maria and 92 mi southeast of Terceira.

It has 759.41 km2, 64.7 km long and 8-15 km wide, and a population of 131,609 inhabitants, being the largest and most populous island of the Azores.

Known as the Green Island by the exuberance of its vegetation and abundance of cultivated fields, in Sao Miguel you find some of the most renowned natural wonders of the Azores, like Sete Cidades and Fogo Lagoons. The city of Ponta Delgada is the largest of the archipelago and is today an important urban center, economic and culturally.
