Located at 39o 05´N and 28o 05´W, Graciosa Island lies 20 mi north of São Jorge and 32 mi northwest of Terceira.

It has 62 km2, 12,5 km long and 7,5 km wide, and a population of 4,780 inhabitants.

It is the least mountainous of the Azores, reaching a maximum altitude of 402 meters. The landscape of Graciosa is of great beauty, combining the green pastures with white isolated houses and villages. It has flattened and fertile fields that produce vegetables, fruit and wine and where it raises cattle, being today the main source of wealth of the island.
